PECHA KUCHA at 7:00 PM in G101 -- Presentations in a 20 second-20 slide format about art, the collaborative process and community. Featured guests include Larry Caveney (Garage Gallery), Nuvia Crisol Guerra, Susan Myrland (Curator, ART LABS), Cheryl Nickel (Space 4 Art), Perry Vasquez (Southwestern College, Border Corps) and David White (Agitprop).

"This exhibition broadens our connections, not only presenting artworks by our faculty but also providing a glimpse of other artists that they admire, have things in common with, or that inspire them. Faculty members invited an artist to show a piece alongside their own. This resulted in some interesting combinations, including two professors who invited their children, now adults and artists themselves, and two teachers who asked former students, now pursuing their art professionally.

Reinforcing on the idea of the community, Mesa College will be hosting a Pecha Kucha (www.pecha-kucha.org) taking place following the reception. A Pecha Kucha is a 20 second - 20 slide presentation format that will focus on the city’s creative scene through a collaborative lens. Larry Caveney runs the Garage, a relational space that showcases artists who deserve a platform, but do not have the advantage of representation. When Nuvia Crisol Guerra isn’t in her studio, she’s involved in the San Diego community as a curator, promoter and lecturer. Susan Myrland, curatorial director for the ART LABS 2011, single-handedly connected over 150 artists and arts
organization to complement the Art San Diego Contemporary Fair. Cheryl Nickel, co-founder of Space 4 Art, has contributed to energize the Downtown area by providing a live/work space for artists. Perry Vasquez is a member of The Border Corps, a performance collaboration exploring the artistic process and the idea of mass creativity. Artist David White founded Agitprop whose goal is to blur the lines between the individual Artist, the Studio, the Gallery and the Neighborhood."
